Just over a week after Memphis Animal Services issued a "code red," meaning the shelter has no more kennel space for dogs, the group is once again facing maximum capacity, Lucas Finton reports.

At 10 a.m. on Aug. 11, MAS posted on social media that every single kennel — and office — was occupied. The post garnered over 2,000 shares on Facebook, with adopters and foster families commenting about their own pets, and sparking interest in adoptions and fostering from others.

Orange Mound has a new $1.2 million dollar splashpad. Kids ran from spigot to spigot Saturday morning. They ducked and dodged the 10 to 15-foot range of the water cannons that started gushing just after 10 a.m., Samuel Hardiman reports.

The Orange Mound Park splashpad — a new piece of the park on the site of an old city pool — opened yesterday amid unbridled joy from kids and older residents alike.

In case you missed it: Young Dolph, the Memphis-based rapper who was shot and killed last November, will be posthumously inducted into the Memphis Shelby County Schools' Alumni Hall of Fame on August 26, Lucas Finton reports.

Memphis' population: Memphis has submitted its long-planned challenge to the U.S. Census, Samuel Hardiman reports. The city says the census underestimated the amount of people who live in Memphis by about 16,000.

New restaurants: There's definitely no shortage of good restaurants in the Memphis area — and even more are on the way. Jennifer Chandler created a guide to 11 soon-to-open Memphis-area restaurants that you'll want to put on your must-try list.
