Memphis-Austin flights: American Airlines plans new direct flight

Memphis International Airport is adding a second direct flight to Austin next year, the airport announced Monday.

The American Airlines flight to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will begin service Jan. 10 and will run Sunday through Friday using a 76-seat Embraer 175 aircraft.

Allegiant Air is the only other airline with a non-stop flight between Memphis and Austin.

“This new route has been a frequent customer request and the largest passenger carrier at MEM is proud to deliver,” said Philippe Puech, American Airlines Director of Short-Haul Network Planning. "Whether customers are taking care of business or are traveling to enjoy the sights and sounds of the musical capital cities, we can’t wait to welcome them on board.”

With the addition of the Austin flight, American now has 10 direct flights out of Memphis, including Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York, Phoenix, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
