It's time.

Nearly three years after an experimental test run produced overwhelmingly positive results, the "Memphis Tigers Basketball Insider" group text is back and it's available only for subscribers.

Penny Hardaway is gearing up for this fifth season as head coach, fresh off leading his alma mater to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly a decade.

With the Tigers poised to capitalize on that momentum, The Commercial Appeal is relaunching group text chats between myself and our most engaged Memphis Tigers fans and readers. In this group text chat, you’ll get insider-esque access, as well as a chance to exchange ideas and maybe get to know me a little better.

My only rule: Be nice!

What will we talk about?

Tigers basketball, of course.

But not just on-the-court stuff. A chunk of what will be shared with you – the current or prospective subscriber – will be unique and/or exclusive to the group text chat. Whether that's an early peek at things I'm working on, photos/video/audio you won't find anywhere else, or the extra Easter eggs that might not make the final version of a story – very little will be off limits.

By joining “Memphis Tigers Basketball Insider," you’ll get my signature musings as well as inside intel – oftentimes before it’s published in The Commercial Appeal and on commercialappeal.com – and long before you catch wind of it elsewhere.

It also will be used as a safe space to exchange thoughts and ideas, on both sides of the forum.

Will other people see my number?

No. When you respond to the group text thread, it just goes to me. I might respond to you individually, or I might quote part of your message back to the group thread, but that’ll come from my number, not yours.

Nobody else on the group chat ever will see your contact information.

What are you going to do with my number?

It's simple: We’ll never give or sell your number to a third party. We won't abuse it internally.

When you opt in, you’ll get only a couple of messages from us per day around this group chat. You can opt out at any time.

No ongoing texts, no purchases, no credit cards needed.
