Memphis basketball's home date with Houston, the No. 1 team in the country, has a lot riding on it.

Apart from the here and now, though, how things go Sunday inside FedExForum could have significant implications on the future of the program. Especially from a recruiting standpoint. Along with an expected sellout crowd of more than 18,000 fans, coach Penny Hardaway will welcome a group of high-profile recruits that includes the son of a former Tiger.

Camden (N.J.) junior guard Billy Richmond III, St. Thomas More (Conn.) junior forward Tyler Betsey, Parkview Magnet (Little Rock) junior forward Dallas "Slim" Thomas, Benton (Ark.) sophomore forward Terrion Burgess and Briarcrest Christian junior point guard Jaye Nash all will be on campus on unofficial visits, a source with direct knowledge told The Commercial Appeal.

Richmond, Betsey, Thomas and Burgess are rated 4-star prospects by 247 Sports.

  • Betsey (6-foot-8, 185 pounds) is ranked 44th overall in the Class of 2024 by the 247 Sports Composite.

  • Richmond (6-5, 200) is slotted currently as the No. 58 overall recruit in the 2024 class, while Thomas (6-7, 170) is at No. 75.

  • Burgess (6-8, 200), per 247 Sports' recruiting rankings, is the No. 17 overall prospect in the Class of 2025.

  • Nash (6-2, 175), a 3-star, is No. 129 overall in the 2024 class.

Richmond, whose father, Billy Jr., is founder of The Wing Guru and played for former Memphis coach John Calipari, averaged 12 points and 5.6 rebounds per game at Camden this season, according to NJ.com. He already holds offers from Kentucky, Kansas State and Louisville.

Betsey, who played under current Memphis assistant coach Andy Borman with the AAU New York Rens, holds offers from Duke and Alabama, among others.

Thomas, who plays for former Arkansas star Scotty Thurman at Parkview Magnet, also holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Houston and Illinois.

Alabama, Illinois, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Missouri have reportedly extended offers to Nash.

Burgess, reportedly the first 2025 recruit to receive a scholarship offer from Arkansas' Eric Musselman, is also being courted by Auburn, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Memphis does not yet have any commitments from 2024 or 2025 recruits.
