Memphis basketball's Larry Brown taking temporary leave of absence

Larry Brown, Memphis basketball's special advisor to coach Penny Hardaway, is taking a temporary leave of absence to address a minor medical issue, the Tigers announced Sunday.

Brown, a Hall of Famer and the only coach in history to win both an NBA championship and NCAA title, spent last season at Memphis as an assistant coach.

The program released a statement saying Brown "hopes to return soon."

"We wish him all the best and respect his privacy at this time," the statement reads in part.
