Memphis beats Wichita State with jumper in final seconds, 65-63
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Memphis Tigers only led in their matchup against Wichita State for less than one out of 40 minutes, but it was the final minute that mattered.
David Jones sunk a jump shot with 2.8 seconds left in the game to seal the victory for the Tigers, 65-63.
Wichita State fell to 9-13 on the season after leading by as many as 14 points late in the second half. The aforementioned Jones scored 26 points for Memphis to lead the comeback.
Wichita State guard Colby Rogers led the Shockers in scoring with 19, and Ronnie DeGray III added 12 as the only two to score in double figures.

As a team, the Shockers shot 35.6% from the field and 38.9% from three, while the Tigers shot 37.5% and 42.1%, respectively. The Shockers were outrebounded 49-38, with 20 of Memphis’ rebounds being offensive boards.
Wichita State cleaned up their turnover issues by only committing five and forcing 12 on Memphis, and shot better from the free throw line going 14-of-20.
The loss drops Wichita State to 1-8 in the AAC, dead last in the conference. Up next the team will return home to face Texas-San Antonio on Wednesday, Feb. 7. UTSA is 2-6 in the AAC and 8-13 overall.
