Memphis City Council election 2023: Here are all the candidates who won

Memphis City Hall is seen on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Memphians cast their vote Thursday for a new mayor and multiple new members of the Memphis City Council. While three single-member council races remain undecided and will go to a Nov. 16 runoff, Super District winners and four other council races were decided when votes were tallied Thursday.

All results are unofficial until certified by the Shelby County Election Commission.

District 1

Incumbent Rhonda Logan has won the District 1 race with 6,222 votes, a 76% total.

Candidate Kymberly Kelley received 1,961 total votes.

District 4

Incumbent Jana Swearengen-Washington won the District 4 seat with 7,866 votes, a 73% total.

Candidate Teri Dockery received 2,906 votes.

District 5

Philip Spinosa won the District 5 seat with 8,860 votes, a 54% total.

Luke Hatler received 721 votes and Meggan Wurzburg Kiel had 6,936 votes.

District 6

Incumbent Edmund H. Ford Sr. won the District 6 seat with 10,138 votes, a 76% total.

Keith D. Austin II had 1,924 votes and Larry Hunter had 1,183 votes, according to unofficial results.

Super District 8, position 1

Incumbent City Councilman JB Smiley Jr. had no opponents on the ballot this year. He received 33,607 votes to return to his seat representing Super District 8, position 1, according to unofficial results.

Super District 8, Position 2

Janika White won the race to represent Super District 8, Position 2 with 26,234 votes, a 73% total.

Marion Latroy Alexander-Williams Jr. received 4,244 votes and Davin D. Clemons had 5,624 votes, according to unofficial results.

Super District 8, Position 3

Yolanda Cooper-Sutton won the race to represent Super District 8, Position 3 receiving 9,407 votes, a 26% total.

Berlin F. Boyd received 5,848 votes, Lucille Catron had 2,470 votes, Brian Harris had 7,601 votes, Damon Curry Morris had 829 votes, Jerred Price has 6,944 votes, Paul Randolph, Jr. had 3,170 votes, according to unofficial results.

Super District 9, Position 1

The incumbent Chase Carlisle won the race to represent Super District 9, Position 1 with 29,091 votes, a 69% total.

Candidate Benji Smith had 13,155 votes, according to unofficial results.

Super District 9, Position 2

J. Ford Canale won the race to represent Super District 9, Position 2 with 26,719 votes, a 62% total.

Candidate Brandon D. Washington had 16,127 votes, according to unofficial results.

Super District 9, Position 3

Incumbent City Councilman Jeff Warren had no opponents on the ballot this year. He received 36,538 votes to return to his seat representing Super District 9, position 3, according to unofficial results.
