Memphis football adds two juco commitments, including former PURE Academy standout Chris Morris

Memphis football added a pair of junior college commitments in its 2023 class, including a local player who's returning to the Bluff City.

Offensive lineman Chris Morris, who is originally from Memphis, announced Monday that he was committing to the Tigers. Morris visited the Tigers this past weekend ahead of the early signing period starting Wednesday.

"It’s the only place that feels right, HOME! Committed to @MemphisFB#WildThing 23 Let's get it," Morris wrote on Twitter.

A few hours later, Memphis added a commitment from linebacker Chatavies "CJ" Johnson from Navarro College in Texas.

Morris signed with Texas A&M in the Aggies' 2020 class. He spent last season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas after leaving Texas A&M in summer 2021.

Now he'll be reunited with Carter and back in his hometown. Morris is also the second commitment from Hutchinson Community College after tight end Jamauri Chislom committed Sunday.

Johnson had 72 tackles last season for Navarro College along with an interception returned for a touchdown and two forced fumbles.

His commitment comes less than a day after his teammate Marcus Tillman Jr. decommitted from the Tigers. Both he and Morris make it three commitments for the Tigers today along with transfer commitment Reid Bauer from Arkansas.
