Memphis Grizzlies score vs. Golden State Warriors: Live updates of Christmas Day showdown

SAN FRANCISCO — No more talking.

The war of words is over, and now it's time to play basketball. The Memphis Grizzlies are playing the Golden State Warriors in primetime on Christmas Day. This is the first time the Grizzlies have played on Christmas in franchise history, and there may not be a more fitting opponent than the Warriors.

These two teams are responsible for ending the other's season the past two years. The Grizzlies (20-11) defeated the Warriors in the play-in two seasons ago, and the Warriors (15-18) beat the Grizzlies in six games of the 2022 Western Conference semifinals.

Memphis recently got good news with the return of shooting guard Desmond Bane, but things aren't as shiny in the Bay Area. Two-time MVP Stephen Curry won't be available on Christmas.

Curry would have likely been Dillon Brooks' defensive assignment, and those matchups are always good battles. Brooks may not be guarding Curry, but his intensity is unlikely to change. He made it clear he wants to guard Klay Thompson, who is questionable to play.

“I got Klay," Brooks said on Dec. 15. "I like that matchup better, because he was talking a little smack when we lost. I’ll just show him what type of defense I got.”

The Warriors are currently the 11th seed in the Western Conference. They have lost seven of their last nine games.

However, only one of those losses came at home. The Warriors are 12-2 inside Chase Center. Memphis is also under .500 on the road, but this is as healthy as the Grizzlies have been all season.

The Grizzlies won two of the three regular-season meetings last season.
