Memphis Grizzlies trade De'Anthony Melton, take David Roddy of Colorado State in 2022 NBA Draft

The Memphis Grizzlies are 2-for-2 trading up in the 2022 NBA Draft.

The Grizzlies traded De'Anthony Melton to the Philadelphia 76ers to select Colorado State forward David Roddy with the No. 23 pick on Thursday. The Grizzlies also acquired veteran forward Danny Green from the Sixers in the deal.

The Grizzlies made the deal shortly after trading up to take Wake Forest forward Jake LaRavia at No. 19 earlier in the draft.

Roddy is a 6-foot-5 forward who was the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year last season. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 43.8% on 3-pointers as a junior.

Like LaRavia, Roddy is a versatile forward who can play multiple positions, which is a trait Memphis values. He was a two-way sports star in high school who was named the 2019 Minnesota Male Athlete of the Year.

Melton, a backup point guard, spent the past three seasons in Memphis, where he averaged 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists to help the Grizzlies reach the Western Conference semifinals this past season.

Green has one season left on his two-year contract. He injured his ACL in the NBA playoffs.
