Here's a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:

inferno recently promoted senior copywriter Brandon Davis to associate creative director and Sophie Tsagronis from PR account executive to PR account coordinator. They joined the company in 2013 and 2020, respectively. Davis now reports to Michael Overton, agency partner and executive creative director, while Tsagronis reports to Dan O’Brien, agency partner and director of client services.

The board of directors of Hunter Fan Company, a global ceiling fan manufacturer, announced the appointment of James “Tony” Hair as chief executive officer of Hunter, effective Jan. 1. He replaced John Alexander, who transitioned to board executive chairman. Hair joined Hunter as president in September, working directly with current CEO John Alexander. Prior to September, he was Masonite’s president of Global Residential since 2017. He earned a master's degree from the University of Iowa.

The Baker Donelson law firm in November added 24 new associates throughout its firmwide operations. Among them in the Memphis office are Karen Lott Glover whose primary practice is in advocacy; Meagan O. Jones, corporate; and E. Carl Krausnick III, real estate.

The Baker Donelson law firm also named Mark A.B. Carlson as its chief growth officer, a newly-created position focusing on lateral attorney recruiting, acquisition and integration. This role is responsible for structuring and executing lateral attorney recruitment across Baker Donelson, as well as reviewing and vetting law firm merger candidates. He joined Baker Donelson in 2004 as a corporate finance and securities associate in the Memphis office and most recently, after a year away from the firm, returned as was leader of Corporate/Mergers and Acquisitions Group. He is based in the firm's Atlanta office.

John Mikaelian has joined Trezevant's senior living community as its new Food and Beverage director. He'll oversee all dining planning and services for the residents. Prior to joining Trezevant, Mikaelian worked at Eclipse Senior Living where he served as the senior area director, covering more than 20 assisted living dining services programs in nine states. He is a Certified Executive Chef, a Certified Dietary Manager and Serv-Safe Certified. Mikaelian and his family move to the area from Lebanon, Tennessee.

Bartlett-based SurgePays, a fintech company providing a complete suite of financial services and prepaid products to convenience and neighborhood stores serving the underbanked market, was recognized as the 50th fastest-growing company in North America by the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 in 2021. The recognition marks the third consecutive year SurgePays has made the rankings, moving up from No. 172 in 2020. The Deloitte Technology Fast 500 honors companies that “define the cutting edge, transform the way we do business, disrupt the technology industry, and combine technological innovation, entrepreneurship, and rapid growth.”

Attorney Kelsey Wynne joined the law firm of Moskovitz, McGhee, Brown, Cohen & Moore as an Associate. She earned her juris doctor from Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson and externed for Judge Thomas L. Parker with the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Wynne also interned in the Office of the District Attorney in the 31st Judicial District. Her practice will focus exclusively on family law matters.

Jim Proctor, chief financial officer of Regional One Health, was selected to serve on the Tennessee Hospital Association's Center for Innovative Solutions board. “TCIS drives value for its members by partnering with companies that focus on innovative solutions to help hospitals fulfill their mission,” Proctor said. The THA Center for Innovative Solutions identifies and vets potential venders, making it easier for hospitals to find quality solutions for a number of operational areas including data and technology, financial and workforce, so hospitals can focus on caring for patients.

There have been numerous new hires and promotions at CBIZ's Memphis office. The employees who have been promoted are Jason Volpe, director and shareholder – Attest; Clayton Templeton, director and shareholder – Attest; Karen Burton, director – Tax; Sonya Daniels, senior manager – State & Local Tax; Lance Willis, director and shareholder; Michael Stewart, senior manager – Tax; Chris Deneweth, manager – Attest; and Michael Morris, manager – Attest. Newly hired are Tommy Plass, Tax manager; Eric Efron, Tax senior manager; Cameron Johnson, Tax senior manager; Andrew Sakalarios, Tax managing director; and Kaleb Tilton, Attest manager.

Man Up to Cancer, an online community inspiring men to avoid isolation when facing a cancer diagnosis, selected 18 members to help expand its reach across the U.S. and Canada. Steven Barker, 33, of Memphis will serve a one-year term as a Wolfpack Leader. Barker, a husband and father of two, was diagnosed in 2019 with stage III non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He has undergone chemotherapy and is currently NED (No Evidence of Disease). The Wolfpack Leaders connect with local cancer centers and direct support to fellow cancer patients, survivors and caregivers facing all types of cancer. Man Up to Cancer is comprised of a website, podcast, social media, and a Facebook group of more than 1,300 men, known informally as the Wolfpack. The core of Man Up to Cancer is about being strong enough to accept help.

Urgent Care for Children (UC4C), a Birmingham-based pediatric urgent care provider, is now open and ready to deliver urgent care treatment to children in Memphis. The newest clinic is at 5849 Poplar Ave., near Target and REI. This location marked the company’s 10th clinic opening in 2021 and their sixth location in Tennessee, as the organization continues its rapid expansion across the Southeast. The physician-owned and operated pediatric urgent care organization provides quality care, convenient care, and continuity of care to children in the after-hours, all 365 days of the year.
