Here's a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:

Edward "Ed" D. Lanquist Jr. and Scott M. Douglass have joined Baker Donelson's Intellectual Property Group as shareholders in the Nashville and Memphis offices, respectively. Lanquist focuses his practice on patent, trademark and copyright litigation, as well as intellectual property counseling, trademark prosecution and technology law. With more than three decades of intellectual property law experience, he has prosecuted more than 150 patent applications and 1,400 trademark registration applications. Lanquist is active in the Nashville legal community. He currently serves as vice president of the Tennessee Bar Association and will be the TBA's president-elect in 2023 and president in 2024. Lanquist earned his juris doctor from the University of Tennessee. Douglass concentrates his practice in trademarks, copyrights and data privacy. He litigates trademark, trade dress and copyright claims in federal courts. Douglass graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Copyright Society of the South and International Trademark Association.

ALCO Management announced the promotion of regional property manager Amy Greer to vice president of property management. Greer succeeds Sondra Wimbs, who retired after 30 years at the company. Previously, she was ALCO’s community manager at the Metropolitan and Greenlaw Place Apartments in Memphis and later as a senior community manager and the company’s fair housing and 504 coordinator. Greer has been with ALCO for 16 years and has earned professional designations as Certified Property Manager, Public Housing Specialist, Certified Apartment Manager, Certified Professional of Occupancy and Specialist in Housing Credit Management. In her new role she'll lead ALCO’s team of regional property managers and oversee the day-to-day operations of its affordable apartment communities.

A2H, a Memphis area-based full-service planning and design firm of engineers, architects, landscape architects, interior designers and land surveyors, added four new hires locally to the team.

  • Charles “Chooch” Pickard, senior architect, brings more than 25 years of experience to the firm, where he will continue to leverage his broad expertise as a preservation architect and urban designer. He was most recently a principal at Arch Inc.

  • William Key, structural engineer, has five years of experience in structural design, having worked on a wide range of project types including industrial, healthcare, civic and educational facilities. In addition, he has 10 years of field experience in the construction industry.

  • Bryan Putt, structural designer, has a focus on foundations, flood control and construction phase field services. An Arkansas State University graduate, he is currently enrolled in graduate-level architectural study at Lawrence Technical University.

  • Grettio Rivas, structural designer, has broad experience in industrial and commercial buildings with a specific focus on foundation design.

Neel-Schaffer hired Jeremy Branch to serve as a water resources engineer in the firm’s Chattanooga office. He has more than 10 years of water resources engineering experience, including six with the Albuquerque, New Mexico, District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With Neel-Schaffer he'll work on various analysis and drainage study/design projects for clients across a nine-state footprint. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Floodplain Manager. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law recently welcomed several new faculty members.

  • Jennifer Brobst has joined as an Assistant Professor of Law. She joins the law school from Southern Illinois University School of Law, where served as an Associate Professor of Law, cross-appointed in the SIU School of Medicine Department of Medical Humanities. Brobst teaches Torts, Professional Responsibility and Health Law courses. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Cape Town, Republic of South Africa with honors in Social Anthropology and Archaeology, J.D. degree from University of San Diego School of Law, and LL.M. (by thesis in international comparative law) from Victoria University of Wellington Law School, New Zealand.

  • Sonya Garza has joined Memphis Law as an Assistant Professor of Law and teaches Contracts, Family Law and Race & the Law. Prior to joining the faculty, Garza served as an Assistant Professor of Law at the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law at Barry University. While at Barry, she served as the faculty advisor for the Child and Family Law Journal, as well as the Hispanic Law Students Association and the Family Law Certificate Program. Garza earned her J.D. at Stanford Law School, where she was a Note Editor on the Stanford Law Review.

  • Regina Hillman joins the law school as an Assistant Professor of Law after serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law since 2017. While at the law school, she oversaw the law school's Legal Methods program and taught Professional Responsibility. Her teaching interests also include Gender & the Law/LGBTQ+ Rights, and Advanced Legal Writing. Prior to being a faculty member at the University of Memphis School of Law, Hillman taught Legal Process I & II as an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law and undergraduate and graduate level classes on Business Law & Ethics and Employment/Labor Law at Tusculum College. Hillman received her J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
