Here are the Memphis and Shelby County candidates running for federal and statewide offices

In case you haven't noticed the road signs and the television ads, it's election season in Shelby County and Memphis.

On Aug. 4, voters will decide which candidates to support in the Republican or Democratic primaries for Congress, governor, and various state legislative seats.

Early voting starts on July 15. If you don't know what district you're in, you can check at the Shelby County Election Commission's website.  

Here are the candidates running for each seat.

8th Congressional District

Democratic primary:

  • Tim McDonald

  • Lynette Williams

Republican primary:

  • Danny Ray Bridger, Jr.

  • Gary Dean Clouse

  • Bob Hendry

  • u.S. Rep. David Kustoff (incumbent)

9th Congressional District

Democratic primary:

  • M. Latroy Alexandria-Williams (senior)

  • U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen

Republican primary:

  • Brown Dudley

Governor, Republican Primary

  • Gov. Bill Lee

Governor, Democratic Primary

Tennessee Senate District 29

State Sen. Raumesh Akbari, the Democratic incumbent, faces no opposition in the primary. There is no Republican running.

Tennessee State Senate District 31

Republican primary: 

  • Brent Taylor

Democratic primary: 

  • Ruby Powell-Dennis

Tennessee State Senate District 33

Democratic primary: 

  • Marion Latroy Alexandria-Williams, Jr.

  • Rhonnie Brewer

  • State Sen. London Lamar (incumbent)

Republican primary: 

  • Frederick D. Tappan

Tennessee State House District 83

Mark White, the Republican incumbent, is running unopposed. There is no Democratic candidate on the ballot.

Tennessee State House District 84

Democratic primary: 

  • Brandon Price

  • State Rep. Joe Towns, Jr. (incumbent)

There is no one running in the Republican primary.

Tennessee State House District 85

Democratic primary: 

  • State Rep. Jesse Chism (incumbent)

  • Phyllis Parks

Tennessee State House District 86

Democratic primary: 

  • Sate Rep. Barbara Cooper (incumbent)

  • Will Richardson

There is no one running in the Republican primary.

Tennessee State House District 87

  • State Rep. Karen Camper is running unopposed in the Democratic primary and there is no Republican running.

Tennessee State House District 88

  • State Rep. Larry Miller is running unopposed in the Democratic primary and there is no Republican running.

Tennessee State House District 91

Democratic primary: 

  • Barbara Farmer-Tolbert

  • State Rep. Torrey Harris (incumbent)

There is no Republican running.

Tennessee State House District 93

  • State Rep. G.A. Hardaway is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. There is no run Republican running.

Tennessee State House District 95

Democratic primary:

  • Patricia Causey

Republican Primary:

  • State Rep. Kevin Vaughan (incumbent)

Tennessee State House District 96

  • State Rep. Dwayne Thompson is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. There is no Republican running.

Tennessee State House District 97

Democratic primary:

  • Toniko S. Harris

  • Houston Wolf

Republican primary:

  • State Rep. John Gillespie (incumbent)

Tennessee State House District 98

  • State Rep. Antonio Parkinson is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. There is no Republican running.

Tennessee State House District 99

There are no Democratic candidates.

Republican primary:

  • State Rep. Tom Leatherwood (incumbent)

  • Lee Mills
