Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best high-end New American restaurants around Memphis, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to fulfill your urges.
1. Houston's Restaurant
Topping the list is Houston's Restaurant. Located at 5000 Poplar Ave. in East Memphis-Colonial-Yorkshire, the steakhouse, New American and traditional American spot is the highest rated high-end New American restaurant in Memphis, boasting four stars out of 224 reviews on Yelp.
On the menu, expect a mix of chicken, steak, fish and seafood entrees. Diners can choose the Ruby Red Trout (hardwood grilled and served with broccoli and pomme puree), the Hawaiian (rib-eye steak with pineapple-soy-ginger marinade and served with a baked potato) and jumbo lump crab cakes. 2. Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar
Next up is Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar, situated at 39 S. Main St. With 4.5 stars out of 902 reviews on Yelp, the wine bar, venues and event space and New American spot has proven to be a local favorite for those looking to indulge.
The Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar offers an extensive list of white and red wine flights from the U.S. and all over the world as well as entree flights. McEwen's Memphis, located at 120 Monroe Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the fancy bar, Southern and New American spot 4.5 stars out of 378 reviews.
On the dinner menu, look for pan seared sea scallops and Chilean seabass, a pork chop and New York strip steak. For lunch, you'll find soup, salad and sandwiches, like the turkey & pimento (roasted turkey, house-made pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted wheat berry bread) and the grilled yellowfin tuna entree. Erling Jensen The Restaurant, a French and New American spot in East Memphis-Colonial-Yorkshire, is another much-loved, pricey go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 119 Yelp reviews. Head over to 1044 S. Yates Road to see for yourself.
The wine list includes a wide selection of bottles or drinks by the glass, such as Pinot Noir, Rhone, Shiraz and Petit Sirah), Cabernet, Sherry and more from across U.S. and the globe. For entrees, there are seafood, fish, steak and unique game options, such as the Guadaloupe Mountain Elk Chop.
5. Interim Restaurant & Bar
Over in East Memphis-Colonial-Yorkshire, check out Interim Restaurant & Bar, which has earned four stars out of 130 reviews on Yelp. Treat yourself at the New American spot by heading over to 5040 Sanderlin Ave.
