Men’s style expert Jovel Roystan is back for another installation of In The Know’s The Guide and this episode is all about off-duty style.

It’s the things you wear when you’re off the clock, hanging out with friends or kicking it with your boo. For Roystan’s personal off-duty style, he likes to mix it up with sporty and smart elements. Think plaid pants with a crossbody bag and loafers or a sleeveless turtle neck with a utility vest.

Here’s how you can look fresh with your own off-duty style.

The Quick Look

“When I may be pressed for time and I don’t spend too much time getting ready, I’ll keep it really easy, relaxed and stripped down,” he said.

Roystan suggested trying an oversized sweater, like a red one from Spirit Jersey or a graphic tee, like a bear-printed one from Vintage Twin. He paired each with ripped blue jeans from ASOS.

The Personality Look

“My second approach is doing the complete opposite,” Roystan said. “I go really big and have a lot of fun, so I really let my personality out.”

That meant a white Pyer Moss mock neck tee with a red graphic or a camel denim match set by Jaded London with a bold horse print. To turn things up he chose a snakeskin Chelsea boot. For a more casual vibe, he opted for a classic pair of black Converse Chuck Taylors.

The Colorful Look

Roystan went back for the Pyer Moss graphic tee but this time he wore it with a bold red Pyer Moss track pant and Comme des Garcons Chuck Taylors their signature red hearts.

“I didn’t have to do a lot with this look because the red statement down below, it does everything for me,” he explained. “It’s such a big, bold pop.”

When it doubt, go for the classic T-shirt

His final recommendation was when in doubt, choose your favorite T-shirt. Whether it’s a simple logo tee from your favorite designer label, like Balenciaga, a bold print or a distressed vibe, you can wear a T-shirt with pretty much anything.

“They add so much versatility to your wardrobe. You can throw it on with a blazer, a flannel, with a jacket,” Roystan said. “You can wear it with jeans, joggers, shorts. The options are infinite.”
