Men in Heels Are a Thing: Just Ask Xavier Dolan

Click-clack, click-clack. That unmistakable sound of approaching stilettos may be worth a double take the next time you hear it: it could actually be a stylish man approaching. Lately, Hollywood gents have been embracing heeled footwear styles, spurring an unlikely trend that feels super fresh and unexpected. Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, and Jared Leto have all favored shoes bearing those few extra inches—and now, Canadian actor-director Xavier Dolan is on board, too.

Today, Dolan attended a photo call for Matthias et Maxime at at the Cannes film festival in France, a film he directed and wrote. For the occasion, he laced up a pair of Christian Louboutin’s leather oxfords, which had a thick Cuban heel. They proved to be a more modern twist on a classic red carpet shoe—and the end result? Red hot, just like the label’s signature soles. He paired the eye-catching heels with a classic gray three-piece suit and styled it with a psychedelic-print button-up shirt. Bonus points for the tasteful jewelry: a single gold ring and earring.

While only a select group are partaking in the look—please refer to American Horror Story’s Cody Fern in Margiela’s Tabi boots—sightings of men in heels appear to be happening more and more. And, please, for the love of fashion, keep ‘em coming.
