Mena Suvari recounts ‘weird and unusual’ brush with Kevin Spacey

Mena Suvari recalled an “unusual experience” she shared with Kevin Spacey on the set of “American Beauty,” 19 years before abuse allegations were levied against him.

Suvari, 42, said that throughout the filming of the Oscar-winning picture, she “trusted” Spacey. However, she did add that one particular moment did not sit well with her.

In preparation for a scene, Spacey allegedly brought Suvari into a room where they “lay on the bed very close to one another,” she told People Magazine. “He was sort of gently holding me. It was very peaceful but weird and unusual.”

When the sex abuse allegations were made against Spacey in 2018, Suvari immediately “thought of that day,” leaving her in a confused state.

“My heart goes out to anyone who suffers abuse,” she added.

In October 2018, actor Anthony Rapper accused Spacey of making unwanted sexual advances toward him when he was 14 years old.

“I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I’m beyond horrified to hear his story,” Spacey said in response to the accusation. “I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”
