Mendon sweeps rival Chiefs

Mendon won a pair of baseball games over White Pigeon on Thursday.

With the victories, the Hornets improve to 4-0 on the season. Mendon won the games 12-2 and 13-9.

Jackson Kindig struck out eight hitters for the Hornets in the first contest, he allowed seven hits for the Chiefs in the win.

White Pigeon led 1-0 early in the game, but Mendon scored twice in the home half of the first inning. The Hornets would add two in the fourth and eight more in the fifth to end the game after five innings.

Evan Lukeman collected a pair of hits in the contest, he drove in three runs total. Grant Crotser and Chase Scheffler each had a hit and drove in two runs for Mendon.

Cam Bingaman was credited with two RBI. Kindig and Luke Schinker each registered a hit.

In the nightcap, Mendon pushed across 10 runs in the opening inning. The Hornets added one more in the third to lead 11-0.

White Pigeon would post two in the fourth and seven more in the fifth.

Brayden Crites tossed four innings and struck out eight for Mendon in the game. He allowed two runs. Lukeman and Schinker each pitched as well.

At the plate, both Schinker and Lukeman hit a double. They each drove in one.

Crites collected three hits with one run driven in, Kindig also singled home a run.

Gabe Haigh and Scheffler were each credited with two RBI, Bingaman drove in one.

Constantine splits games 

The Constantine baseball team opened the season with a split against Kalamazoo Hackett on Thursday evening.

The Irish won the opening contest of the game at 9-6. They scored runs in five of the seven innings.

Constantine’s offense belted eight hits in the game. Gaven Lewis and Cooper Juday each hit two of those. Dathan Smith drove in three runs and had one base hit as well, a triple.

Caleb Bontrager singled in one. Brayden Clark was credited with an RBI while both Alex Brossman and Austin Forrester had one base hit.

Lewis struck out five hitters on the mound.

In the second game, Constantine won 5-4. The Falcons fell behind 4-0 but rallied to score twice in the second and three times in the third inning.

Both Juday and Brossman registered two hits and one RBI in the win. Nolan Rodewald also had a hit.

Clark struck out two hitters, Smith fanned three from the mound.

Centreville wins two games 

The Centreville baseball team got off to a 2-0 start on the season with a pair of wins on Thursday.

The Bulldogs were on the road at Cassopolis and came home with wins of 8-1 and 17-0.

The first game was scoreless through three innings. Centreville then added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the seventh.

Vinny Jines totaled four hits and two RBI in the win. Both Garrison Bunning and Peyton Balle had two hits.

Harrison Gregory drove in two runs with a base hit. Brady Miller and Aiden Hasbrouck each had one hit in the game as well.

Picking up the win was Jacob Sikanas, he struck out 12 hitters in the game.

Centreville posted eight runs in the top of the first inning to start the second game. The Bulldogs added one in the second plus four more runs in the third and fourth innings.

Miller clubbed three hits in the game, Kobe Carpenter added three hits with one RBI and Gregory drove in two with three hits.

Matt Swanwick clubbed a pair of hits, those drove in three collective runs. Sikanas registered a pair of RBI with two hits, both Balle and Hasbrouck drove in two runs with a base hit. Tristan Smeltzer and Ben Truckenmiller both had a base hit.

Miller picked up the win, striking out four.

Marcellus earns two wins 

The Marcellus baseball team beat Bangor twice on Thursday, 21-5 and 10-0.

The Wildcats scored five in the first inning, then added five more in the second. Three more in the third, one in the fourth and seven more in the fifth gave the Wildcats 21.

Nathan Mihills, Cole Thornburgh and Brock McWilliams each registered three hits in the contest. Eian O’Neill had two hits and drove in three runs while Brock Buck had two hits and two RBI.

Parker Adams hit a double and drove in three, Chase Karn had one hit and two RBI. Dawson Lehew hit a single in the game as well.

Mihills picked up the win, striking out seven. Lehew pitched as well, striking out three.

In the second game, Marcellus scored in four of the five innings played. It ended with five runs in the fifth.

Buck and Thornburgh each had two hits and two RBI for the Wildcats. McWilliams added two hits as well, Lehew drove in two with his hit.

Karn registered a base hit and one RBI, O’Neill had a single and Adam Bates walked three times, driving in one run as well.

Lehew picked up the win, striking out 10 hitters.
