Menno pole vaulters dominate at Lancer High School Opener

Mar. 25—YANKTON — Menno won three events at Mount Marty's Lancer High School Opener indoor track meet Wednesday.

Brady Fergen won the boys pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 6 inches to best teammate Owen Eitemiller's vault of 11 feet. Meanwhile, Morgan Edelman's vault of 8 feet, 9 inches was enough to win the girls pole vault by a foot. In the girls shot put, Menno's Raygen Diede top heave of 33 feet, 7 inches nipped Mount Vernon/Plankinton's Clara Fink by an inch for the win.

Menno's Jesse Munkvold ran the girls 60-meter hurdles in 10.37 seconds, taking second to Sioux Falls Lincoln's Joy Bilal by 0.2 seconds.

MVP freshman Emilee Fox finished second in the 400 with a time of 1 minute, 5.11 seconds, taking second to Lincoln's Emma Sahly's time of 1:04.52. Fox was also part of a 4x400 relay team with Maria Baker, Tessa Pickart and Berkeley Engelland that ran 4 minutes, 21.10 seconds, beating second-place Colman-Egan by more than six seconds.

Gregory's Emma Thomas was also second in the 1,600-meter run, racing to a time of 5 minutes, 39.27 seconds, finishing behind Lincoln's Radian Simeonova's time of 5:36.78.

On the boys side, MVP's Ryan Chapman won the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 11 inches, topping Colman-Egan's Kelby Voelker, who threw 40 feet, 2 inches.

Chapman's teammate Reed Rus was second in the high jump, leaping 5 feet, 8 inches. Lincoln's Carter Brost won the event with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches.

Menno's Tyler Massey placed third in the triple jump with a top jump of 38 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Brost also won the event by jumping 41 feet, 1/2 inch.
