Cleveland County Rescue Ministries opened its men’s winter shelter in Shelby Thursday.

The shelter, which is located at the men’s restoration building at 706 Julius St., will provide emergency overnight shelter for men.

Intake begins at 4 p.m. every day and a total of 30 beds will be provided. This year the shelter will be opening one month earlier, with services lasting from Dec. 1 to March 31.

The men’s overnight emergency winter shelter is an emergency service that is put into effect every year to prevent individuals from spending the night in extreme cold and potentially freezing to death. All individuals will receive a hot meal at night, breakfast in the morning, a warm blanket and a place to sleep for the night.

“This is how we are helping people.” said Micheal Woods, the executive director of CCRM. “We are grateful knowing that we are keeping people safe, fed and alive.”

CCRM is dedicated to serving the homeless and poor populations of Cleveland County by providing access to basic needs as well as opportunities for restoration, personal growth, and development.
