MEN'S HOCKEY: Former Beaver Zach Whitecloud joins Canada's World Championship roster

May 10—BEMIDJI — Former Bemidji State men's hockey defenseman Zach Whitecloud has been named to Canada's National Men's Team roster for the 2022 IIHF World Championship.

The roster of 24 skaters was announced by Hockey Canada on Monday. Whitecloud, a native of Brandon, Manitoba, previously contributed to Canada's fourth-place finish at the 2017 Karjala Cup.

Whitecloud recently completed his fourth season with the Vegas Golden Knights, posting 19 points (8g-11a) and finishing the year +21 on the ice, a team high. He finished his two-year BSU career with 36 points in 77 games played between 2016-18.

The 2022 edition of the World Championship gets underway on Friday, May 13, in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland. Canada's first game is against Germany at 12:20 p.m. CDT on Friday.

Games will be broadcast on TSN and RDS, the official broadcast partners of Hockey Canada. Sixty-four games will be played on TSN and 33 on RDS. Viewers should check local listings for details.
