Mentor Public Library hosts talk by baseball historian/author

Feb. 24—Baseball historian and author Scott Longert will talk Tribe during and after World War II when he visits 6:30 p.m., March 13, at Mentor Public Library's Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave.

Longert is the writer of "Victory on Two Fronts: The Cleveland Indians and Baseball through the World War II Era." He'll discuss the Indians' hard luck during World War II, the team's integral role in racial integration, and its legendary postwar comeback, according to a news release.

Longert is a lifelong Tribe fan who has spent years researching the team's history. He has written several other books about Cleveland baseball: "Addie Joss: King of the Pitchers"; "The Best They Could Be" about the World Series-winning 1920 team; "No Money, No Beer, No Pennants: The Cleveland Indians and Baseball in the Great Depression"; and "Bad Boys, Bad Times: The Cleveland Indians and Baseball in the Pre-War Years" which covers 1937 to 1942.
