On the Menu: Chef's Table opens on Bloomington's west side

Clard and Tiffany Davidson opened Chef's Table at 3860 W. Third St., in the former Naughty Dog location, last week.

This Chef's Table is different from the restaurant of the same name in Bloomington's downtown that closed last year. It's one of the questions the Davidsons keep answering at their business, which is open for lunch and offers catering. The other question that kept popping up was if they were going to sell hot dogs — that led to adding all-beef hot dogs, including a chili dog, Chicago dog and Italian sausage to the menu. Also on the menu are sandwiches and wraps — Italian, ham, turkey, cheese steak, veggie, chicken salad and grilled cheese. All the sandwiches and hot dogs are served with homemade, thick-cut chips that have a special smoky seasoning. Another option is loaded potato salad, with green onion, bacon, cheddar cheese, ranch dressing and sour cream.

Salads include Caesar, garden and chef's table, with Romaine, ham, turkey, onion, tomato, croutons, egg and cheddar cheese. Chili and tomato soup are always available, with a soup of the day as well. Recent soups included broccoli cheddar and homemade chicken noodle. The tea is fresh and the lemonade is house made.

The Davidsons have lived in Bloomington for the past 11 years. They met in 2006, their first day of culinary school in Vincennes. He's been a chef at an Indiana University sorority and she spent 10 years at Panera and also worked as a pastry chef in French Lick restaurants. Both also worked at various restaurants and bakeries in French Lick/West Baden Springs.

"We needed a change and we wanted to bet on ourselves," Clard said about opening their own restaurant and catering business.

While he's taking charge of most of the menu, Tiffany is tackling the baking. Desserts include cookies, brownies and a dessert of the day. Saturday's dessert of the day were mini apple pies for $4.50 each. Other desserts could be New York-style cheesecake with drizzles of chocolate ganache and salted caramel or blueberry lemon cookies.

Hours at Chef's Table are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Chef's Table also does catering for various size parties. For more information, call 812-287-8016, email chefstablecater@gmail.com or find them on Facebook at Chefs Table Catering.

CurderBurger back at Culver's

For people who love burgers and cheese, the CurderBurger is back at Culver's restaurants for a limited time. The special burger was offered last year for only one day and has been requested ever since, according to the company. The sandwich starts with a double burger topped with cheese curds made from yellow and white cheddar cheese. The CurderBurger will be available through the end of October or while supplies last.

In Bloomington, Culver's is at 1918 W. Third St.
