There will be more options for chicken along East Kirkwood Avenue when Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers opens on Sept. 7.

Restaurant leader Brian Higgins had hoped to have the restaurant open in late August but that won't be possible. The first restaurant opened in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Chicken fingers are central to what's on the menu, served with a special sauce in combos and sandwiches alongside crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast and coleslaw.

Hours will be 10 a.m.-1 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday at 422 E. Kirkwood Ave., the former home of Which Wich. The Raising Cane's will be bigger than the former restaurant since it includes the space where another store was previously located behind the restaurant.

As reported earlier, the restaurant will be seat about 100 people and will have an outdoor patio area in the space between the building and the Chipotle restaurant next door.

Butch's closes

While one restaurant is getting ready to open, another downtown restaurant has closed its doors. Butch's Grillacatessen & Eatzeria at 120 E. Seventh St. has closed for the last time. Owner Jared Eisenberg was out of town this past week but look for more information in an upcoming column.

Back open again

Even a fire can't stop the baking at Two Sticks Bakery. A fire on Aug. 15 outside the building caused damage and kept the bakery at 415 S. Washington St. closed on Aug. 16, a Tuesday and the normal first day of the week for the shop. But after power was restored, Two Sticks was able to open on Aug. 17 and is hoping to get a little more business to make up for the loss. The bakery is open 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
