On the Menu: Two new food options available at Food Truck Friday

From its beginning years ago in the parking lot of the former Chocolate Moose on Walnut Street Food Truck Friday is now as busy as ever in its new location at Switchyard Park. Food Truck Friday has been operating 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays beginning in April and now boasts about eight or more food trucks every week.

Jordan Davis, with Chocolate Moose, oversees the operation and expects two new choices to be present most weeks through October. Pinoy Garden Cafe set up a booth last week for its inagural time at the event. People who frequent the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market on Saturdays already know the vendor. The stand sells Filipino food and also sells at the Tuesday Farmers' Market at Switchyard Park.

Arepa Burger is expected to participate for the first time this Friday. The new food truck will offer Venezulan fast food, including burgers, fries and more. In a Facebook post, there's a description of its Special Burger, which has a beef patty, grilled chicken breast, boneless pork chop, pork sausage and more all stuffed inside a bun.

If you stop by Food Truck Friday this week, there will be live music beginning at 4 p.m. from the band Homemade Jam. That will last until 7 p.m., when the duo Scrapper and Blackwell will begin playing until Food Truck Friday ends at 9 p.m.

Live music in the evenings has been a huge draw, Davis said. He's already planning for next year, when he hopes to add more food trucks and other elements to the weekly event to get even more people of all ages outside for lunch or dinner, or both.

Just in case you don't know, the regular food trucks that are part of Food Truck Friday each week are: Uno Mas Taco Truck, Wever's Smoke Eaters BBQ, Doner Kebab, La Poblana Taco Truck, The Big Cheeze, Rasta Pops, Bloom Burger and The Chocolate Moose, with Wacky-Bunzz, Pili's Party Taco and Kona Ice of Bloomington showing up some weeks.
