Merced County deputies looking for man who fell into California Aqueduct near Los Banos

Authorities are looking for a man who reportedly fell into an aqueduct while fishing in Merced County on Sunday.

At about 2:47 p.m., Merced County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded the area of Ortigalita Road and Mervel Avenue in Los Banos, near the California Aqueduct for a report of a possible drowning, according to a Merced County Sheriff’s Office news release.

According to authorities, 39-year-old Amado Miranda was fishing along the aqueduct before losing his footing and falling into the water. He was last seen about 300 yards south of the location where he entered the water.

Authorities have described Miranda as 5-foot-5 and 240 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is also said to have scaring on his left arm and right side of his chest.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded and started rescue and recovery operations in an attempt to locate Miranda. Authorities ask anyone who has seen the man or know of his whereabouts to call the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at 209-385-7445.
