Merced police looking for driver and vehicle in hit-and-run crash that injured child

Authorities are looking for a hit-and-run driver after a child was struck by a vehicle in Merced on Saturday.

At about 6 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of R and 19th streets after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle, according to Lt. Emily Foster.

Foster said the child was with adults attempting to cross R Street traveling east when he was struck by a vehicle driving north on R Street. He was transported by ambulance to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera with a possible broken ankle, police said.

Foster said there was dense fog in the area at the time of the collision, and it is unknown if the driver is aware they struck a pedestrian. The vehicle was described as a white four-door sedan, possibly a Honda. It was last seen traveling north on R Street.
