Mercedes Shows Updated 2018 S-Class Coupe, Cabriolet in Frankfurt

Next week, Mercedes-Benz will premiere the refreshed 2018 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet (convertible) along with performance brand AMG variants at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The newest members of the flagship S-Class family of large premium cars will include updates previewed in the 2018 S-Class Sedan that debuted this spring in Shanghai. These new 2-doors and AMG variants will go on sale in the United States in mid-2018, according to the automaker.

The 2018 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be offered in S560 and AMG S63 and S65 versions. All will be enhanced with advanced driver-assistance systems, including active steering and distance-assist technologies, plus a revised widescreen cockpit with Mercedes’ latest-generation infotainment system and new 3-spoke steering wheel.

The 2-door S560 will be powered by Mercedes’ new twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine that is 8% more fuel efficient, according to the automaker. It adds an extra 14 horses to produce 463 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque when paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The S-Class Coupe is all-wheel drive (AWD) while the convertible remains rear-wheel drive (RWD). The AMG S63 is powered by the same downsized V-8 as the S560, while the S65 retains the V-12 that makes 612 horsepower. Both come with 4Matic AWD.

Both the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet seat four and feature a new front bumper with chrome-plated front splitter and air inlets. The car’s appearance is enhanced by restyled side skirts and chrome-plated twin tailpipes. AMG performance variants add more dynamic front and rear bumpers with three-dimensional air inlets and the new Panamericana grille. Mercedes OLED taillights are standard.

Mercedes also expands interior treatments to include burl walnut and ash gray, plus a new upholstery choice: Nappa leather in Porcelain/Tizian Red. The new, all-digital cockpit features a 12.3-in. screen with virtual instrument displays and touch/swipe controls. Three display styles are available, including classic and sporty, and the latest navigation system features 3D map display and real-time traffic. Additionally, an array of S-Class features already include semi-autonomous advanced safety systems, ultra-connectivity including wireless smartphone charging, plus luxury touches such as massaging seats and an interior fragrance selector.
