Mercer County corporation honored as 2024 West Virginia Arts Organization of the Year

BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) — The Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation was named the Governor’s Arts Organization of the Year for 2024 by the West Virginia Department of Arts,
Culture and History.

West Virginia native honored as Modern-Day Technology Leader at a STEM conference

The award will be given to the Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation (BARC) on February 27, 2024 during a ceremony at the state’s Cultural Center. The award presentation will be at 6:00 p.m. in the Center’s Norman L. Fager Theater, and there will also be a reception in the Center’s Great Hall at 5:30 p.m.

The state’s designation of BARC as the Arts Organization of the Year recognizes the non-profit’s critical contribution to the economic vitality and quality of life in Bluefield.

The Governor’s Arts awards acknowledge the arts in the Mountain State. The awards pay attention to the arts and the influence that they have on economic and cultural development through recognizing contributions and accomplishments of people and organizations.

Esports program coming to McDowell County

Our hardworking team has performed an outstanding job in bringing to our area live musical concerts, art exhibits, and first-run movies. When an arts organization unites with a goal to serve not only Mercer County students but audiences of all ages in our diverse community, this recognition from the state of West Virginia makes all our efforts even more special. The Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation manages the Granada Theater and Raleigh Street Cinemas in downtown Bluefield, West Virginia, as well as the Paine Gallery in Bluefield’s historic former City Hall. They are a not-for-profit organization that is also arts-focused community based, and they make entertainment, education, and employment in their area by using the arts.
