Mercury Prize 2019 Shortlist: The 1975, slowthai, Black Midi, More

The Mercury Prize has announced its 2019 shortlist. Nominees include The 1975 (A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships), slowthai (Nothing Great About Britain), Black Midi (Schlagenheim), Little Simz (GREY Area), Dave (Psychodrama), Foals (Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1), Nao (Saturn), and Idles (Joy as an Act of Resistance). The award honors the best British album of the last 12 months, as chosen by a panel of British music critics and industry professionals, this year including Stormzy, Jorja Smith, and Annie Mac. Last year, Wolf Alice took home the prize for Visions of a Life, which beat out records by King Krule, Arctic Monkeys, and more. Previous recipients of the award include Sampha, James Blake, PJ Harvey, Pulp, Portishead, Antony and the Johnsons, and others.
