Mercyhurst plans star-studded MIAC season for 2023-2024: features Tony-award winners, more

The lineup for the Mercyhurst Institute for Arts and Culture's 2023 season features a star-studded lineup of Tony Award-winning performers, traditional jazz music and much more.

The next season kicks off Sept. 21, when two-time Tony Award-winning actor, singer and dancer Sutton Foster comes to the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center to give a solo concert. Foster is a Tony Award-winning actress, singer, and dancer who was most recently seen as Marian Paroo in the Broadway revival of “The Music Man,” opposite Hugh Jackman. Her performance earned her a seventh Tony nomination as well as the coveted 2022 Drama League Distinguished Performance Award.

Oct. 25: Actor Alan Cumming joins journalist Ari Shapiro for “Och & Oy! A Considered Cabaret.” Alan Cumming (“Cabaret,” “The Good Wife”) and Ari Shapiro (NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Pink Martini) will premier their new evening of tunes and tall tales, with musical direction by Henry Koperski.

Nov. 28: Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a 60-year-old traditional jazz group from New Orleans

  • Feb. 29, 2024 Singer and actress Jessica Vosk brings her Carnegie Hall debut show, “My Golden Age,” to Mercyhurst University.

  • March 12, 2024, singer, songwriter and producer Sy Smith returns for a solo engagement of "underground soul music."

  • April 9, 2024: Dance company Step Afrika! brings a dynamic, unique performance by the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping, a polyrhythmic, percussive dance form that uses the body as an instrument. Under the leadership of founder and executive producer C. Brian Williams, stepping has evolved into one of America’s cultural exports, touring more than 50 countries across the globe.

Concluding the season on May 1, 2024, is Tony Award winner Gavin Creel, who won a Tony Award for his performance as Cornelius Hackl in the Broadway revival of “Hello, Dolly!” that also starred Bette Midler.

Single tickets go on sale Aug. 15 at noon and can be purchased online, by phone at 814-824-3000, or at the box office in the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center. The box office is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. With the purchase of tickets to four or more MIAC Live performances, subscribers save 10% on single ticket prices. Season subscriptions will be available beginning July 11.
