Meridian Voices concert to be held Sunday

Oct. 18—On Sunday, Meridian Voices will hold the concert "Guakia baba: The Music of Raymond Torres-Santos."

Equally at home in both classical and popular music, Dr. Raymond Torres-Santos is an accomplished composer, arranger, conductor, pianist, producer, educator and author.

His works have been performed and/or commissioned by the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra, L.A. Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony and Washington, D.C., Opera in the U.S.; the symphonies of Vancouver and Toronto as well as the Canadian Opera Orchestra in Canada; in Europe by the Vienna Symphony, Prague Radio Symphony, and Warsaw Conservatory of Music Chorus and Orchestra; Asia's National Chinese Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony, Seoul Symphony, Kaohsiung Philharmonic and Taipei Philharmonic Orchestras; the Buenos Aires, Chile, Colombia and Mexico City symphony orchestras in Latin America; and Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras in the Caribbean.

Torres-Santos is currently the director of the Theory and Composition Department at Cal State Long Beach in Los Angeles, where he was the dean of the College of the Arts (architecture, film, theater, dance and music). Previously, he was the dean of the arts at the William Paterson University in New Jersey.

The composer will discuss the work that will be performed during a Q&A at 4:30 p.m. in advance of the concert.

Meridian Voices is a nonprofit choral ensemble of professional-level singers, led by CSUB choral music director Angel Vazquez-Ramos, who are committed to musical excellence and bringing unique live performances to the Central Valley.

Sunday's concert, presented by Klein DeNatale Goldner, will begin at 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th St.
