Merriweather Post Pavilion Won't Open Just Yet Despite Easing Of COVID-19 Restrictions

- All right, Mike, thank you. Concert venues, they can now open at half capacity, but that does not necessarily mean the music will play again. Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia will stay closed for now. The outdoor venue there can hold nearly 20,000 people, but a spokeswoman says, opening at half just doesn't make sense for them. She says, in some ways, the only thing worse than being fully closed is being partially open.

- The artist gets almost all the money from the ticket price. So how we are able to try to pay our bills is by selling beer, and wine, and merchandise, and food, and all of that. So we need more bodies in a facility in order for us to be able to cover our costs.

- While she also says, there is no way to make a prediction about the summer concert season, because this all depends on vaccine distribution. Another thing to consider here is whether or not bands and artists feel comfortable going on tour.
