Mertzon man arrested after child makes outcry of sexual assault

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office is looking for the fourth suspect in a crime ring and asking for the public’s help.

A child made an outcry recently to school administration at a San Angelo school of sexual abuse that occurred for over two years in Mertzon.

The child, younger than 14, went to the school official's office and said they had been touched over and under their clothes for approximately two-and-a-half years.

The victim said the last incident happened on Nov. 15, 2021, in Irion County.

Raymond Acosta Jr., 55, was booked into Tom Green County Jail on Jan. 15, 2022, for aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual assault of a child and indecency with child by sexual contact.

Acosta remains in jail in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
