Meryl Streep’s Daughter Mamie Gummer Sells Hollywood Hills Home for $1.65 Million

Mamie Gummer’s 1940s Hollywood Hills retreat, often referred to as a tree house for its perch above the neighborhood’s many mature trees, officially has a new famous owner. Gummer put the home on the market for $1.495 million at the beginning of this year, and it was recently purchased by Jack Nicholson’s daughter Jennifer Nicholson for a bit above asking price, $1.65 million.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Gummer actually had an offer in hand just one week after putting the three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom house on the market, though it’s unclear whether or not Nicholson extended that particular offer. Situated in Beachwood Canyon, the rustic 1,964-square-foot home’s most eye-catching features are undoubtedly its wide wraparound wooden deck and wood-fronted exterior. Red-framed French windows and a bright red front door add pops of color to the cabin-esque home. The interiors are an eclectic mix of hardwood floors, exposed wood beams, earth-toned ceramic tile, and charming period pieces, including a freestanding fireplace situated in one corner of the open-plan living and dining room.

The kitchen features unusual copper countertops and an O’Keefe and Merritt stove, with cabinetry handcrafted from reclaimed wood. Casement windows and skylights throughout the shared living spaces help flood them with natural light during the daytime. There are two bedrooms and two updated bathrooms on the ground floor, one with built-in wooden shelves and exposed wood beams for an authentically rustic vibe. The other bedroom is more modern in appearance, though original built-in shelves are still visible in one corner of the room. The master bathroom features a polished concrete shower. Upstairs, a finished attic with ample skylights has been converted into a lounge/bedroom and a home office. Outdoors, the large wraparound deck is the perfect spot for entertaining, with a built-in wooden bench surrounding a stone fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, and a grilling area. Gummer originally bought the home from yet another famous name—model and entrepreneur Josie Maran—for $1.36 million in early 2018.
