Update, 3/1:

Meryl Streep is officially a grandmother! Her daughter, Mamie Gummer, welcomed her first child, a baby boy, Us Weekly reports. There's no word on the newborn's name yet, and no photos of him have been shared publicly so far.

Original story, 12/7:

Meryl Streep is about to take on a new role: being a grandma. The actress' daughter, Mamie Gummer, is pregnant with her first child, her rep confirmed to Us Weekly. This will be Streep's first grandchild.

Mamie, 35, is the second of Streep's four children with husband Don Gummer; her siblings are Henry Wolfe Gummer, 33, Grace Gummer, 32, and Louisa Gummer, 27, according to Us.

Although this will Streep's first time being a grandmother in real life, she'll soon play a grandma (albeit a very intimidating one) in Big Little Lies Season 2. She'll portrait Mary Louise Wright, mother to the late Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) and mother-in-law to Celeste (Nicole Kidman).

Streep actually approached Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, who both star in and produce BLL, to be on the show after it won a Golden Globe for Best Limited Series. "She goes, ‘I suppose now I have to join you.’ And we were like, ‘What?’ The two of us were just shocked," Kidman told Variety. (If Big Grandma Energy didn't exist before, Meryl Streep just created it.)

As for what Meryl is like as a mom IRL, Mamie Gummer can attest. “Well, I’ve been watching her my whole life,” the actress told The Telegraph in 2015, while promoting her film with Streep, Ricki and the Flash. “Not just how she act-if she has a secret to her success, she hasn’t passed that on-but how she behaves and interacts with the world; like any kid does with a parent.”
