Mesa's top 10 utility users in natural gas, water, electricity and more
Ever wonder who's using up the most water in Mesa or who's the biggest natural gas customer? This list has that covered.
Founded in 1878, the city of Mesa began providing services for electricity and gas as early as 1917. The city continues to add to and expand its infrastructure to respond to growing demands from residents and the landing of new businesses.
Ongoing projects include a new 10.5-mile-long water pipe and replacing a more than 60-year-old gas line along Broadway Road from Mesa to Stapley drives.
Here's a breakdown of some of the city's top utility users by alphabetical order, according to a city document from 2022. The city doesn't provide the ranking of top users because of yearly shifts from customers.
Who are Mesa's top natural gas users?
Unlike other municipalities that received their natural gas service from private companies like Southwest Gas Corporation, Mesa acts as its own provider. It’s been in operation since 1917 and is the 13th largest publicly-owned natural gas utility system in the country by customer count.
The city’s gas services go an additional 236 square miles beyond city limits into Pinal County. According to data from the city at the end of the fiscal year 2021, Mesa had about 70,281 total customers.
