'Messy weather' to start weekend followed by cold front: Rain, wind across Treasure Coast

Showers and gusty winds are expected ahead of a cold front in what forecasters said was messy, springtime weather to begin the weekend on the Treasure Coast.

It could be a weekend to stay indoors and get some spring cleaning done.

Rainfall totals anywhere from a half-inch to a couple of inches were projected for Friday and Saturday, along with 20-25 mph sustained winds and 30-35 mph possible wind gusts throughout the area, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

Showers and gusty winds forecast to start the weekend were forecast ahead of a cold followed by a projected gradual return to warmer temperatures early next week, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Friday, March 22, 2024.

“(We’ve) kind of got a messy weather pattern out there right now,” said Tim Sedlock with the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Melbourne.

Ocean conditions were expected to worsen through the weekend, prompting rough surf and rip current advisories.

Highs in the low-to-mid 70s Friday were forecast to lead to temperatures in the near-to-low 80s Saturday.

He said an overnight cold front Saturday could push lows into the upper 50s into early Sunday. Temperatures may barely make it out of the 60s during the day Sunday.

Altogether, Sedlock said it's a typical springtime weather pattern for the area.

He projected a gradual return to warmer temperatures early next week.
