The 2022 Met Gala red carpet was full of gilded glamour as guests attended fashion’s most-anticipated event of the year.

From Blake Lively to Kim Kardashian, the best-dressed stars of the Met Gala stunned in vintage dresses and multiple outfit changes.

The theme of the evening’s Met Gala was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” the second part of the Costume Institute’s exhibition, which opened on 18 September. The first part of the exhibition was reflected in last year’s Met Gala theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which was in celebration of all things American Fashion.

Last year, the Met Gala took place on 13 September and the year before, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Usually, around 600 celebrities are invited to mark the glitzy event in their social calendars, but this year and last, the numbers are closer to 400.

As per tradition, the guest list for this year’s event was carefully presided over by Vogue’sAnna Wintour, who has run the gala since 1995. It was announced earlier this year that the 2022 hosts would include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who served as the night’s official co-chairs.

Vogue’s Pre Met Party took place on Sunday night, and took on a much funkier theme compared to its more glamorous sister event - inspired by American Hustle and 1970s fashion, the party took place in New York’s iconic Katz’s Deli.

It was attended by models and fashion designers galore, include Shalom Harlow, Paloma Elsesser, Precious Lee, Christopher Kayne, Batsheva Hay, Christopher John Rogers and more.

But one guest’s makeup look has captured the Internet. Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor’s 70’s classic look, teamed with an embellished Louis Vuitton bare-back halter dress, has fans swooning.

The look, created by makeup artist and niece of Charlotte Tilbury, Sofia Tilbury, made use of barely-there shimmer to highlight Dynevor’s high cheekbones and a feline flick at the edges of her eyes accentuated her gaze.

But whether or not Dynevor will be at the Met Gala tonight remains to be seen.

Met Gala watchers might see all the Kardashia-Jenner sisters and mother Kris Jenner at the major fashion event tonight.

According to Page Six, Vogue editor Anna Wintour has invited all the Kardashians, except for one, to the 2022 Met Gala for the first time.

This includes Kim Kardashian and boyfriend Pete Davidson, Kourtney Kardashian and fiance Travis Barker, Khloe Kardashian, Kris and Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

However, Rob Kardashian is unlikely to attend, as is Kylie’s partner Travis Scott, who she shares two children with. The publication also reports a source as saying that Kim’s ex-husband Kanye West is “not expected to attend” this year.

Kim attended the gala last year dressed in an all-black Balenciaga outfit, complete with a mask that covered her face and head.

Kendall was also present at the event last year and donned a sheer bejewelled gown by Givenchy designer Matthew Williams. The dress was inspired by gown Audrey Hepburn wore in 1964, Jenner said, adding: “I love Audrey, so we really wanted to take a special moment of hers and make it our own.”

The family’s attendance would mark the first time Khloe and Kourtney have attended the prestigious fashion event. Watch this space.

Celebrity stylists and makeup artists have been dropping hints on what the stars they’re dressing might wear on the 2022 Met Gala red carpet this evening.

Here are some of the most intriguing #MetPrep hints so far:

Erin Walsh, who styles the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kerry Washington and Anne Hathaway, posted a photograph of a pair of blush pink Gucci platform heels on her Instagram.

The shoes have a covered-toe front with dainty cutouts and a pair of red lips on each sole.

She wrote in the caption: “Stepping into my higher(est) self with a little help from my friends.”

Benjamin Puckey, whose recent celebrity clients include Uma Thurman and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is the Global Colour Director for Japanese beauty brand Clé de Peau Beauté.

He posted a range of Clé de Peau Beauté lipsticks in different shades of red and plum, with the caption: “#MetPrep.”

The brand’s newest ambassador’s include actors Ella Balinska, Dakota Fanning and Diana Silvers.

New York City-based jeweller Briony Raymond also added to the hashtag, posting a short video of a large silver and gold-toned diamond rose brooch glittering in the sunlight.

The jeweller said that the vintage brooch would be making its “big Met Gala debut” today. While it’s not known which A-lister will don the beautiful brooch, Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner is one of the A-listers following the company on Instagram.

Blake Lively looked regal in Versace as she performed the first red carpet outfit change of the night, while Ryan Reynolds stayed on theme with the evening’s white-tie dress code. The actress, 34, was dressed in a shimmery floor-length rose gold gown before she unveiled its layered turquoise skirt. The Versace dress is inspired by famous New York City landmarks, including Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building.

Eagle-eyed fans also noticed Reynold’s adorable reaction to his wife’s quick outfit change. Reynolds was captured looking on, clapping and smiling as his wife changed outfits on the iconic Met steps.

The dress code for this year’s Met Gala is gilded glamour, white-tie. Guests are asked to look to the Gilded Age of New York for inspiration, a time period that spanned from 1870 to 1890 and saw a boom in industrialisation, and, as a result, prosperity.

Met Gala 2022 honours the legacy of fashion icon André Leon Talley, who passed away in January.

Fashion luminaries from Naomi Campbell to Anna Wintour attended Talley’s memorial service at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem on Friday, 29 April.

Talley has been a longtime supporter of the Met’s Costume Institute, since he began working for Diana Vreeland at the institute in 1974. The museum has paid tribute to Talley by adding his iconic Ralph Rucci robes to its newest exhibit, which he wore to the Met Gala in 2010.

Hillary Clinton wore a gown embroidered with the names of historic American women

The former First Lady and Secretary or State made her first appearance at the event since 2001 wearing a custom Joseph Altuzarra gown.

The scarlet red off-the-shoulder gown was embroidered with the names of 60 women Clinton admires, including Madeline Albright, Abigail Adams, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Lady Bird Johnson, and her mother, Dorothy Rodham.

Altuzarra told Vogue that it was important that Clinton’s dress held significance.

“For better or worse, whatever she wears is dissected and analyzed so thoroughly that you have to be very thoughtful about the choices that you make,” Altuzarra said.

“Obviously I was thinking about making her look great, but I was also thinking about the story she’s going to be telling through this dress, and how she would actually vocalise that when people ask her about it. I wanted that story to be something she felt a personal connection to.”

As the Kardashian-Jenner family walked the Met Gala red carpet, a jury in California reached a verdict in the family’s defamation lawsuit filed by Blac Chyna. The Los Angeles jury ruled in favour of the famous family and declined to reward Blac Chyna any of the $100m in damages that she was seeking.

Kris Jenner told Variety’s Marc Malkin that she’s “just happy it’s over,” adding that she’s glad the trial is over “for the girls” as well.

When asked how she powered through the trial, Jenner replied: “Pray. I live in my faith and just hope that’s enough.”

As Meredith Clark reports, the clerk at the Los Angeles courthouse was told by lawyers on Monday that the family were all “at some gala” in New York.
