Metal cutting torches start fire at Sugacreek factory

SUGARCREEK ‒ Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that started late Wednesday morning at Arcitell LLC at 750 Edelweiss Drive NE, according to Assistant Fire Chief Terry Burkhart.

He said the fire started when workers were cutting metal from the back of the building with torches. Someone went inside and said the roof was on fire, Burkhart said.

Firefighters arrived at 11:30 a.m. to find fire coming from the roof on the back of the building, and extinguished the main fire in 10 to 15 minutes. Firefighters needed more time to completely put out fire found between layers of roofing. They left the scene at 1:05 p.m.

Firefighters from Dover and Baltic also responded to the fire at Arcitell, which makes fiber-reinforced polymer panels.
