Metal falls from Assembly Hall jumbotron, briefly delays start of IU-Ohio State 2nd half
The start of the second half between Indiana basketball and Ohio State was delayed after a piece of metal fell from the jumbotron at Assembly Hall right before play was to begin.
As Ohio State's Brice Sensabaugh was walking near half court, a metal rod, as described on the FOX broadcast, fell a few feet away. The game was delayed briefly, but a maintenance crew went up into the scoreboard to check what had occurred.
UPDATE:After inspection, IU says there's no further risk of falling metal from scoreboard

According to the broadcast, the officials were assured everything was safe.
This is not the first time this has happened. In 2014, a large metal beam fell from the Assembly Hall ceiling into empty seats. The incident postponed a game against Iowa.
I asked Chris Holtmann if he was concerned about resuming play after the scoreboard piece fell: "I was. They said it weighed about 10-15 pounds. It fell approximately 7 feet away from Brice. It would’ve significantly injured Brice had it connected. Thank God it didn’t."

#Buckeyes coach Chris Holtmann, on the start to the second half after a piece of the scoreboard fell:
"I asked if I had the authority to say let’s do the second half at another time. They said, we can certainly have that conversation." https://t.co/OmGL6EFtQa— Adam Jardy (@AdamJardy) January 29, 2023
Here’s the indent in the Assembly Hall floor from the piece of metal that fell from the scoreboard right before the second half started (and landed close Ohio State’s Brice Sensabaugh).
