The band announced the fundraising drive in April, and made the first contribution of $500,000. The band’s fans helped to raise the rest.
Metallica announced it was closing a charity fundraising called “Month of Giving.” It actually lasted two months and managed to raise $1 million over the period. All of the funds raised will go to the World Central Kitchen Charitable Foundation and its #ChefsForUkraine initiative, which provides food for Ukrainian refugees.
“It's been just over three months since World Central Kitchen first started supporting people displaced inside and outside Ukraine, serving nourishing meals and food kits to families throughout the region,” the band wrote on Facebook.
World Central Kitchen CEO Nate Mook thanked Metallica’s fans for their support.
“We are so grateful to the incredible Metallica family for supporting our efforts,” Mook wrote.
“Our work is only possible with friends like Metallica. There is still a lot to do – the destruction is immense. But World Central Kitchen will keep showing up for those who need us.”
On their website, Metallica members thanked everyone who supported their campaign and participated in the fundraising.
