Metamora and IVC volleyball seasons end in IHSA Elite Eight
Metamora ended its volleyball season two points short of the Illinois High School Association state finals.
The Redbirds lost to Joliet Catholic Academy 18-25, 25-23, 26-24 in the Class 3A Joliet Supersectional on Friday night. Metamora (36-2) matched its best finish in program history, advancing to the Elite Eight for the 10th time.
With the match tied at 24-24 in the final set, JCA sealed the victory with match's final two points. The Angels (27-13) will play LaGrange Park Nazareth Academy in the 4 p.m. Friday state semifinals at Redbird Arena in Normal.
Kayla Pacha and Esma Frieden double posted double-double. Pacha had a team-high 11 kills with 10 digs. Frieden went for 10 kills and a team-best 15 digs.
Victoria Hall dished out 31 assists, while adding two aces for Metamora, which set a new school record for wins in a season with 36.

IVC falls in Class 2A Elite Eight
Illinois Valley Central saw its season come to a close with a 25-20, 20-18 loss to Palos Heights Chicago Christian in the Class 2A Herscher Supersectional.
The Grey Ghosts, who last made the Elite Eight in 2009, were paced by Purdue University recruit Kenna Wollard. The junior outside hitter went for 12 kills, two blocks and two aces.
Amaya Webb recorded 12 assists with Brynn Conklin posting 15 digs for IVC (30-8). Chicago Christian (34-6) now plays Pleasant Plains at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals at Redbird Arena.
