Like a hot and humid Detroit day, the weather team at Local 4 News is experiencing another change in the forecast.

Local 4 News meteorologist Andrew Humphrey is leaving the station "to explore new opportunities," WDIV-TV (Channel 4) revealed Tuesday.

Tuesday also is the last day on the air for Humphrey, who has been with the station for 20 years.

The news follows last month's announcement that former WDIV meteorologist Kim Adams is returning to the news team after a 13-year absence. Adams begins her new tenure Aug. 8.

In August 2021, WDIV's chief meteorologist, Ben Bailey, left the station after seven years there.

Humphrey has an undergraduate degree in meteorology from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in the same field from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

On the station's farewell to Humphrey posted on its ClickOnDetroit website, he is described as "the first and only broadcast meteorologist on the planet with a degree in meteorology from MIT."

News director Kim Voet praised Humphrey for his warmth and community engagement in WDIV's announcement, stating, “During the past 20 years, Andrew has happily greeted viewers with a big smile and helped them plan their weekends, and he seamlessly slid into any daypart to fill in and deliver the forecast."
