Methamphetamine found at Cedar Ridge Elementary; employee arrested

A nutrition manager at Cedar Ridge Elementary School has been arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine found at the school, according to a press release from the Grovetown Department of Public Safety.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the department responded to the school where a small amount of methamphetamine had been found in an employee restroom in the kitchen. After an investigation, the department believes that it belonged to Kelley Nile, nutritional manager. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division responded to the campus and discovered an additional user amount of methamphetamine in the center console of Nile's vehicle.

Nile was arrested on charges of possession of schedule II narcotics and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.

Staff members told police the restroom is for employees only and is only accessible by key. It is not accessible or utilized by students and no students were exposed to the narcotics or the area of investigation at any time, according to the police report.

The Columbia County School District said Nile is no longer employed by the school system. The school is in the process of notifying staff and parents about the situation.
