Metro Atlanta schools celebrate ‘Hunker Down Day’ in support of Georgia Bulldogs

Several principals with the Marietta City School district allowed students to dress in UGA gear or team colors, ahead of the College Football Championship game.

“A teacher emailed me and asked could we observe honker down day from Governor Kemp and I said absolutely,” said Rachel Brown-Miller, Principal of Dunleith Elementary School said to Channel 2′s Michele Newell.

The hallways, the cafeteria, and even the inside of classrooms screamed team spirit.

“So my shoes are red and black,” said Zoey McCoy, who is a student.

“This is like one of my Christmas pajama shirts but I wore it today because I’m a really big fan of the Georgia Bulldogs,” said Carrey Arias who is a student.

“I love dogs like my shirt, the reason why…. I just wanted to celebrate the bulldogs, they’re just the best,” said Gavin Lovett who is a student.

“You see my shirt I am ready to cheer them on tonight,” said Principal Brown-Miller.

Win or lose, Principal Brown-Miller says she wants students to write some of the players letters of gratitude for working so hard.

The Mayor of Marietta loves the idea behind the dress code and showed up to work in some of his best bulldog gear.

“Today’s a big day for Georgia, so I wore my red pants, my socks, my bulldog tie. My coat,” said Mayor Steve Tumlin.

Mayor Tumlin is counting on his team for another championship win.

“They are playing a great team, it’s a great story both ways on both teams but I think this is still Georgia’s year to make it two in a row,” said Mayor Tumlin.
