MetroWest Medical Center's new chief nursing officer started on Tuesday

FRAMINGHAM — MetroWest Medical Center has a new face among its senior leadership team: Chief Nursing Officer Daniel Wright, who started in his new role on Tuesday.

He takes over the position from Susan Mangini, who had held the job since 2019.

Wright brings years of regional and community health care experience with him, having previously served as chief nursing officer for New York-based regional health care system Arnot Health, according to a MWMC press release.

Before that, he served in the same role at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida, where he led a significant improvement in patient experience scores and a reduction in turnover among nursing staff, according to the press release.

“I’m very excited to serve our caregivers and this community,” Wright said in a statement. “I have already had the chance to meet many of our nurses, and it is clear that we share a commitment to the health and healing of the people we serve. I look forward to working closely with them, our physicians and all MetroWest team members as I embark on this new journey.”

Wright has more than 18 years of combined management experience after working his way up from staff nurse to a succession of leadership positions. He holds an associate’s degree in nursing from Hondros College School of Nursing, as well as a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in health administration from Ohio University, according to MWMC.

His arrival comes at a transitional time for the medical center, which in recent months closed certain outpatient oncology and sleep medicine services and announced CEO Ava Collins’ resignation after less than two years on the job.

Last month, interim CEO Carolyn Jackson — who also leads the Massachusetts arm of Tenet Healthcare, MWMC’s parent company — told the Daily News that the medical center is in the process of searching for a new chief executive, while also investing in key services and departments.

“We are thrilled to have Dan Wright join the MetroWest Medical Center team,” Jackson said in the release. “He is a seasoned nurse leader with a track record of enhancing quality of care, patient experience and nursing satisfaction, and we are confident in his ability to successfully lead the MWMC nursing team into the future.”
