Mets' Brett Baty goes off for Triple-A Syracuse in blowout win

In a 16-6 blowout win on Saturday, Brett Baty had a monster game at the plate for the Syracuse Mets, going 4-for-5, including two home runs.

After a 1-for-5 game in the season opener, Baty went off in Game 2. In the first inning, the third baseman hit a solo shot to give the Mets a quick 1-0 lead. Then in the third, Baty singled before working a walk in the fourth. Baty singled once again in the fifth inning and subsequently stole second base for his first stolen base of the season.

Already 3-for-3, Baty stepped up to the plate in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and two outs and sent one out to the opposite field for a grand slam, putting an exclamation point on his huge night. His only out came via strikeout in the eighth inning.

But Baty wasn’t the only prospect to heat up at the plate on Saturday. Francisco Alvarez went 1-for-4, hitting a solo home run in the ninth inning, and scored two runs while walking twice.

Mark Vientos also had himself a day, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. In fact, he and Alvarez hit back-to-back dingers in the ninth inning. Meanwhile, Ronny Mauricio finished 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored. He also started a double play at shortstop.
