Happy home opener, Brewers fans!

After a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs to begin the 2023 season, the Milwaukee Brewers (2-1) return to American Family Field for their home opener on Monday against the New York Mets (3-1).

JR Radcliffe will have updates throughout the game from the press box. Refresh your browser for the latest below.

That's it! Brewers win, 10-0

Bryce Turang had an unforgettable day in his first career home game, hitting a grand slam and reaching base three times as the Brewers pounded out 10 runs on 10 hits for an overwhelming performance. Milwaukee moved to 3-1 on the year and toppled the might Mets, holding New York to just three hits.

Freddy Peralta looked excellent over six solid innings and Bryse Wilson did the rest for a three-inning save. Could not have gone much better for Milwaukee.

Hope you enjoyed the live blog. We'll probably have more for the Eastern Conference Finals should the Milwaukee Bucks get that far, and perhaps some Wisconsin Badgers football games are in our future, as well.

A strikeout on a clock violation

Jeff McNeil just got rung up by home plate umpire Alan Porter for not being ready on time, our first strikeout on a clock violation this year. William Contreras threw a phantom ball down to third base to commemorate it.

We go to the ninth with the Brewers ahead, 10-0

Wilson will stay in the game looking for the save after the Brewers went scoreless in the bottom of the eighth; Milwaukee hit a couple fly balls to the track, but they landed in gloves.

Milwaukee looking for a 10-0 win and a shutout in the home opener for the first time since a 2-0 win over Atlanta in 2014.

Wilson works around traffic to get through eighth unscathed

Wilson issued a single and two walks in the eighth inning but got a flyout from Pete Alonso to keep the zero on the scoreboard. He's three outs away from a three-inning save (there's no stirring in the Brewers bullpen yet) and the Brewers are on the verge of a home-opener shutout.

Milwaukee has allowed only three hits today, all singles. Five walks, as well.

Christian Yelich up to four strikeouts today

It's been a great day for the Brewers but a tough day for leadoff man Christian Yelich, who struck out looking in the seventh for his fourth punchout today. He also has a walk, stolen base and run scored in that big seven-run fifth inning.

Mets reliever Dennis Santana issued walks to pinch hitter Owen Miller and Joey Wiemer but didn't allow any runs. To the eighth we go.

The dream of a three-inning save is alive

Bryse Wilson works a 1-2-3 seventh inning, finishing with a nasty breaking pitch to get Daniel Vogelbach swinging, and the Brewers take their 10-0 lead to the bottom half.

Remember, there's a quirk in the rulebook that a pitcher can get a save if they close the final three innings of a team's win. Wilson would get the nod even though he entered in a 10-0 game.

Contreras gets a hit but sixth inning ends quietly

It feels like falling action at this point, but the Brewers went quietly in the sixth despite a two-out deflected single by William Contreras

Six innings, two hits, three walks and seven strikeouts for Freddy Peralta, who checks out of the game in favor of Bryse Wilson. Peralta threw 85 pitches, including 51 strikes.

Another easy inning for Freddy Peralta

Peralta issued a two-out free pass to Francisco Lindor but struck out two batters in a scoreless sixth and is up to seven strikeouts in six innings. He's still only at 85 pitches, but one assumes with a 10-0 lead that Milwaukee can turn elsewhere for the rest of this game.

A Bryse Wilson three-inning save perhaps? We'll see.

According to the official attendance, there are 42,017 people here at American Family Field, by the way.

BRICE TURANG GRAND SLAM

This game has come unhinged. Brice Turang just hit a grand slam off Tommy Hunter for his first career home run, and the Brewers have a 10-0 lead. TEN to NOTHING.

Turang's shot came with one out and the bases loaded, one batter after Brian Anderson (who hit a two-run homer earlier in the game) blooped in a shot to right that moved everyone up 90 feet, including Willy Adames to the plate. William Contreras had an RBI groundout two batters earlier.

Turang was pumping his fists and fired up around the bases, then got a curtain call from the fans. The kid has been completely undaunted in his first four games as a big leaguer.

Joey Wiemer then followed with an infield single on top of it. Just a wild day at American Family Field.

Willy Adames brings in another run, and it's 4-0, Brewers

Willy Adames hit a sharp ball to the left side that Francisco Lindor couldn't corral on a diving try, and Christian Yelich came around to score easily to give the Brewers a 4-0 lead. Still runners at first and second with no outs and Rowdy Tellez at the plate. Brewers itching to break this one open.

Carlos Carrasco exits the game with two on and none out

The Mets are turning to Tommy Hunter out of the bullpen after Carrasco lost Christian Yelich on a full-count pitch and followed it up with a walk to Jesse Winker (Yelich also stole second in the meantime). Carrasco only allowed one hit in the first three innings, a Winker bloop RBI single, but then allowed two singles and a two-run homer in the fourth, followed by two walks here in the fifth (and four overall).

The Brewers have a 3-0 lead and are looking for more here in the bottom of the fifth.

Peralta has retired nine straight batters

With another strikeout (he's got five now) and a couple grounders, Freddy Peralta has retired nine straight batters and is through five innings. He's still only thrown 61 pitches.

Man, what a week for this guy, who just had a baby (Freddy Jr.) on Wednesday and is locked in for his first start of the year. After a season with injuries getting in the way, this has to feel great.

It's still 3-0, Brewers, in the bottom of the sixth.

Brian Anderson hits the first Brewers homer of the year and it's 3-0

He's got the same name as the broadcaster, and now the broadcaster can call his own name for the season's first home run.

Anderson lofted a 2-2 pitch from Carlos Carrasco to the batter's eye in center field with Garrett Mitchell on first, and now the Brewers have a 3-0 lead on the Mets in the bottom of the fourth.

The Brewers took two of three in Wrigley without the benefit of a home run, but the Crew is now on the board in the power department.

Freddy Peralta has found a groove

Brewers starter Freddy Peralta is now through four scoreless innings and has struck out four of the last men he's faced. He got Pete Alonso to fly out to open the fourth before getting punch outs on Jeff McNeil and Marc Canha. Peralta has thrown a tight 53 pitches to get this far.

Jesse Winker delivers a bloop RBI single and Brewers lead

Jesse Winker has a little bit of Ichiro Suzuki-esque bat control, I feel.

Brice Turang led off with a walk and reached second base, but Joey Wiemer bounced out to the left side, Christian Yelich struck and Winker faced a two-strike count before just reaching out and plopping a ball down the left field line. Turang's speed and Winker's bat control both playing a role there.

Winker already with five RBIs in his first year with the Brewers.

Yelich has struck out seven times in 16 plate appearances this season now. Tough start for the left fielder. Willy Adames also struck out to end the inning.

Freddy Peralta with two dazzling breaking pitches to end the third

Freddy Peralta has the good stuff today, both velocity and movement. He just threw two sweeping breaking pitches in the at-bat with Mets star Francisco Lindor that ended in a strikeout to end the top of the third.

Still no score as we head to the bottom half.

Brewers bats have been quiet thus far

William Contreras grounded out, Garrett Mitchell bounced out (though he made it awfully close with those wheels) and Brian Anderson struck out against Carlos Carrasco in the second. Only a walk through the first two innings against Carrasco.

Big Dan gets thrown out trying to go to second base

We just saw that rookie right fielder Joey Wiemer has a cannon for an arm. He threw out Daniel Vogelbach trying for second base; granted, Brewers fans know Vogelbach can't run fast, but this ball was in the CORNER!

Wiemer gets it to second base on one hop and Vogelbach, who still got some cheers before his at-bat as a favorite former Brewer, gets a roar on the out. Freddy Peralta yields that hit but it's still essentially a 1-2-3 second inning for him.

Nothing doing for the Brewers in the first

Rowdy Tellez hits a high fly ball that draws some oohs and aahs from fans but it falls into the hands of Brandon Nimmo in center and the Brewers are also scoreless in the first, limited to a Jesse Winker one-out walk.

A ball before a pitch is even thrown

Mets starter Carlos Carrasco was facing a 1-0 count before he even threw a pitch; home plate umpire Alan Porter ruled an immediate ball for a pitch-clock violation, drawing cheers from the American Family Field crowd.

Christian Yelich, however, struck out later in the at-bat.

Jam averted to end the top of the first

Peralta got squeezed a little on what could have been strike three to Francisco Lindor, ruled a ball by home-plate umpire Alan Porter for a walk. Pete Alonso then hit a soft grounder that Adames turned into an out at first, but that left runners at second and third with two outs.

No matter, Jeff NcNeil pops out on the first pitch to third baseman Brian Anderson in foul territory, and we head to the bottom of the first with no score.

First pitch ... and the next three ... are balls to start the game

Freddy Peralta perhaps is a little amped up (even the pregame notes indicated he was excited) to start the game as he walks Brandon Nimmo on four straight pitches to start the home opener. Starling Marte then gives the ball a ride to straightaway center but Garrett Mitchell camps under it just shy of the warning track to give Peralta his first out of the 2023 season.

Some anxious early moments. The stadium is still only about 2/3 full as the tailgating crowd funnels in.

Here's our view 30 minutes before first pitch

Player introductions have begun for both teams along the base lines at American Family Field, with roughly 25 minutes to go before first pitch between the Brewers and Mets. Some cheers for former Brewers slugger Daniel Vogelbach!

Here's some light reading before we get started:

Mark Attanasio meets the media

Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio chatted for close to a half hour with media about a variety of topics, from the questions surrounding public financing for stadium improvements, the TV situation with Bally Sports Wisconsin, the transition to general manager Matt Arnold as the head of baseball operations and more on the current team.

He was asked about possible extensions for players like Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Willy Adames.

"I'm always eternally optimistic, I also recognize that the three of them are about as good as you can get in the sport at their positions," Attanasio said. "There's the challenge of ... those contracts will be deservedly significant. It's pretty much a season-at-a-time now because most guys don't like to talk (contracts) mid-season, but we'll see what this season and this offseason brings."

Starting lineups for Brewers and Mets

The Mets feature two former Brewers in Daniel Vogelbach and Omar Narváez, both of whom were here in 2020 and 2021 (Narváez was here last year, as well). They'll bat seventh and eighth for New York, respectively, in the starting lineup.

The Brewers, meanwhile, have three rookies suiting up for their first home opener: Garrett Mitchell in center, Brice Turang at second base and Joey Wiemer in right field.
