MEXICO CITY (AP) — At least two police officers were under investigation Thursday after a television reporter in western Mexico said police hit her and held her in jail after she reported an attempted rape.
A video posted on social media showed CB Television reporter Mitzi Torres with severe bruises around both eyes as she described the incident.
The television station wrote that "we express our solidarity and condemn these acts."
Torres said Wednesday that she had asked municipal police in the city of Morelia for help after someone attempted to rape her Tuesday. She said two female officers hit her and made fun of her dress and profession when she told them she was a journalist. She was held on unspecified charges and later released.
The prosecutors' office in the western state of Michoacan said it was investigating the actions by police.
Mexico's National Human Rights Commission demanded an investigation not only of police, but also of a medical examiner who refused to certify that the journalist had in fact been injured and a judge who failed to help her.
